Day 2: Arusha National Park Safari & Pre-Climb Acclimatization Experience

Your second day introduces you to one of Tanzania’s hidden natural treasures, Arusha National Park, a perfect pre-climb safari and acclimatization experience. Just a short drive from Arusha town, this beautiful national park offers a spectacular combination of landscapes, including the famous Momella Lakes, the lush Ngurdoto Crater, and magnificent views of Mount Meru.

Guided by our experienced safari professionals, you will enjoy a scenic walking safari through dense forest trails and open grasslands where wildlife sightings may include giraffes, waterbucks, bushbucks, duikers, reedbucks, and the striking black-and-white colobus monkeys. Bird lovers will be thrilled by the park’s incredible biodiversity, with more than 400 bird species recorded in the area. This day is not only a beautiful safari introduction but also an important part of your altitude preparation for Mount Kilimanjaro.

In the evening, you will return to the Gran Meliá Hotel for a full climb briefing by your Kiliclimb Africa Safaris Kilimanjaro guides, including summit strategies, safety procedures, and equipment checks.

Overnight: Gran Melia

Day 3: Lemosho Gate to Forest Camp

After breakfast, you depart Arusha for the Lemosho Gate, the official starting point of one of the best Kilimanjaro climbing routes. This scenic drive takes you through local villages, rolling landscapes, and the foothills of Africa’s highest mountain.

Once registration is complete, your Lemosho Route trek officially begins. Today’s trail leads through the dense Afromontane rainforest zone, a magical section filled with ancient fig trees, towering junipers, hagenia forests, and rich mountain vegetation. The forest is alive with birdsong and occasional monkey sightings, creating an immersive wilderness experience.

After approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours of trekking, you arrive at Forest Camp, situated at 2,780 meters (9,120 feet). Here, your private mountain crew, including our professional guides and dedicated porters — including highly skilled female porters and women mountain guides — will welcome you with warm hospitality, fresh meals, and comfortable camping arrangements.

Overnight: Forest Camp

Day 4: Forest Camp to Shira Camp

Today’s climb takes you out of the rainforest and into the dramatic highland landscapes of the Shira Plateau, one of the oldest volcanic formations on Kilimanjaro. As you ascend, the terrain gradually opens into sweeping moorland with giant lobelias, heather, and expansive mountain vistas.

The journey to Shira 1 Camp takes approximately 5 to 6 hours and offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views on the mountain. Upon arrival, you will have time to rest, enjoy a hot lunch, and explore the surrounding volcanic formations, including the famous Shira Cathedral, known for its spectacular sunset views.

This stage is especially important for high-altitude acclimatization, one of the reasons why the Lemosho Route has one of the highest summit success rates on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Overnight: Shira Camp

Day 5: Shira Camp to Moir Camp

Your Kilimanjaro adventure continues toward Moir Camp, a quieter and less crowded section of the mountain that offers excellent acclimatization benefits. The route today is scenic and gradual, allowing your body to adapt naturally to the rising altitude.

After reaching Moir Camp at 3,995 meters (13,200 feet), you will take part in an afternoon acclimatization hike based on the “climb high, sleep low” strategy — one of the most effective methods for summit preparation.

At Kiliclimb Africa Safaris, safety is our top priority, and every part of the itinerary is carefully designed to maximize your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak successfully and safely.

Overnight: Moir Camp

Day 6: Moir Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

This is one of the most important acclimatization days of the entire climb. The trail ascends to the dramatic Lava Tower at 4,600 meters (15,000 feet), a key altitude checkpoint on the mountain.

After spending time here for lunch and altitude adaptation, the route descends to Barranco Camp, allowing your body to recover while still benefiting from the high-altitude exposure. This method significantly improves summit success.

The Barranco Valley is one of the most beautiful sections of Mount Kilimanjaro, surrounded by giant senecio plants, volcanic cliffs, and spectacular views of the summit.

Overnight: Barranco Camp

Day 7: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today begins with the thrilling ascent of the famous Great Barranco Wall, one of the most iconic sections of the Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro climb. Despite its dramatic appearance, this climb is non-technical and offers unforgettable views over the valleys below.

At Kiliclimb Africa Safaris, our experienced guides — including our empowering team of female mountain guides — ensure that every climber feels safe, confident, and fully supported.

After crossing the beautiful Karanga Valley, you will reach Karanga Camp, an important acclimatization stop that significantly increases summit success rates.

Overnight: Karanga Camp

Day 8: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Today’s trek leads to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before your summit attempt. Located at 4,600 meters (15,000 feet), this camp sits on a dramatic alpine desert ridge with incredible views of the summit glaciers.

This afternoon is dedicated to rest, hydration, and summit preparation. Your guides will assist you in organizing summit gear and provide a final briefing for the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Overnight: Barafu Camp

Day 9: Summit Day to Uhuru Peak, Descent to Mweka Camp

This is the most rewarding and unforgettable day of your entire journey. Starting shortly after midnight, you begin your final ascent toward Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa.

Reaching the summit at sunrise is a life-changing experience. Watching the golden light spread across the glaciers and vast Tanzanian plains below is truly breathtaking.

After celebrating at the summit and capturing unforgettable photos, you descend back to Barafu Camp for rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

This is a long but deeply rewarding day, marking the successful completion of your Mount Kilimanjaro summit adventure.

Overnight: Mweka Camp

Day 10: Mweka Gate to Gran Meliá Hotel, Arusha

Your final morning on the mountain begins with a warm farewell breakfast with your trekking team. This is also a special moment to celebrate the incredible efforts of the guides and porters who supported your journey, including our inspiring female porters and women guides, a proud hallmark of Kiliclimb Africa Safaris.

After descending to Mweka Gate, your driver will transfer you back to the Gran Meliá Hotel in Arusha for a hot shower, relaxation, and celebration of your achievement.
