Bisate Lodge is a private area adjacent to Volcanoes National Park managed by Wilderness for conservation and reforestation. It is not a conventional reserve — its purpose is to expand gorilla and montane forest habitat. The concession is what makes Bisate more than a lodge: it is an active conservation intervention, funded in part by guest revenue.
Wilderness Bisate Lodge sits at the foot of Rwanda’s Virunga volcanoes, within walking distance of Volcanoes National Park — Africa’s premier mountain gorilla habitat. Six architecturally striking forest villas, each designed as an homage to Rwandan royal heritage, overlooking Mount Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeno. Bisate is widely regarded as the most luxurious base in Africa from which to trek to see the endangered mountain gorilla, combining immersive wildlife access with one of the continent’s most visionary reforestation and community programmes. Holder of 34 international awards since opening in 2017.

Wildlife & safari experience
On top of gorilla trekking. Guests are assigned to one of 12 habituated gorilla groups in Volcanoes National Park, with each trek yielding a 60-minute sighting at close range. Golden monkey trekking — a gentler, equally extraordinary alternative — is available on the same trails. The surrounding Albertine Rift montane forest supports over 200 bird species, including several endemics.
