Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park, located in northern Tanzania, borders Kenya’s Maasai Mara to the north and Ngorongoro to the south. Known for its vast, iconic grasslands, it is the setting of the famous annual migration of over a million wildebeest and thousands of zebras, forming the largest terrestrial migration on Earth.

The park’s landscape varies by region: the southern plains are sweeping grasslands, scattered with massive rock outcroppings called kopjes—refuges for lions, leopards, and reptiles. Central Serengeti’s Seronera Valley, with acacia-studded plains and riverbanks, hosts vibrant birdlife and the serene Retina Hippo Pool. To the west, the Grumeti River winds through swampy savannah, sheltering crocodiles and rare patas monkeys. In the park’s quiet northern reaches, the Mara River, notorious for its crocodile-infested waters, awaits migrating herds.

Serengeti is a sanctuary for Africa’s “Big Five”—lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard—and is famed for its high lion population. The park also supports over 500 bird species, including ostriches, eagles, and Kori bustards, making it a bucket-list destination for nature enthusiasts
