Wildlife Highlights: In addition to its famed elephants, Tarangire is home to an impressive array of animals including gazelles, wildebeests, zebras, and giraffes. Before the rainy season, these species migrate to the park’s scrub plains in search of the last grazing lands. You’ll also have the chance to spot massive herds of up to 300 elephants digging the dry riverbed in search of underground water sources. Migratory species such as wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, impala, and hartebeest  gather around the shrinking lagoons, creating an iconic African safari scene.

Rare Wildlife Encounters: Tarangire is also a haven for more elusive and rare species. Keep an eye out for the Greater Kudu, Fringed-eared Oryx, and the stunning Ashy Starling, species that are not commonly found in other parks. Unique Ecosystems: Tarangire’s lush swamps remain green year-round and serve as a vital refuge for wildlife, even in the dry months. Explore the park’s termite mounds, often taken over by colonies of dwarf mongoose, and listen for the distinctive duetting calls of the red-and-yellow barbets that echo across the savannah.
