A DAYTIME SUMMIT CLIMB
Most companies climb to the summit at midnight. However, we have found that a daylight summit climb takes advantage of the magnificent views and warmer temperatures. This allows you to get a good night’s rest, essential for a successful summit bid after many tough days on the trail. We do a daytime ascent on our 8 days Shira routes.
So – At This Summit day! After a Full Night sleep you will be Awake at 4 p.m. for a light Breakfast meal before departure at 5pm , We climb wearing headlamps for about 1 hour until the dawn light is reflected off the African plains. Following a distinct ridge, we approach the crater’s rim, then traverse northwest along the rim to the main summit, Uhuru Peak (19,344 ft.). From here we view the Bismarck Towers, rock pinnacles along the rim, the vast crater floor, the tiny Furtwängler Glacier, the ash pit, and the large northern ice cap. We then descend back to Kosovo Camp for a late lunch and another Full Night sleep after a long Tiring Day.
