Perfect for group climbs, this route offers a balance of challenge, beauty, and tranquility. The trek begins on the western slopes and passes through lush forests, dramatic volcanic landscapes, and the iconic Shira Plateau before ascending to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

Pre- and post-climb accommodations can be arranged at Maridadi Hotel in Moshi or Tulia Hotel in Arusha (or similar), providing comfort, relaxation, and convenience before and after your adventure

Day 1

Arrival – Transfer to Hotel

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), greeted by your Kiliclimb Africa Safaris team. Transfer to Maridadi Hotel (Moshi) or Tulia Hotel (Arusha) or similar accommodations for a restful evening. Receive a briefing on the climb, including tips on hydration, altitude sickness prevention, and trekking essentials.

High-Altitude Drop-Off → Shira 1 Camp

Drive to Londorossi Gate, then ascend via off-road vehicles to the high-altitude drop-off point at 3,600 m. Begin trekking lightly toward Shira 1 Camp, a gentle introduction to the mountain and perfect for initial acclimatization.

Shira 1 Camp → Shira 2 Camp

Depart Shira 1 Camp for Shira 2 Camp, trekking across open volcanic plains. Along the way, hikers can opt for the Cathedral Peak side trek (3,872 m), offering spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and Mount Meru. After lunch, complete an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower to enhance adaptation to higher altitudes.

Shira 2 Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

Trek to Lava Tower, the iconic “Shark’s Tooth,” to spend 1–2 hours acclimatizing at this key high-altitude point. After lunch, descend to Barranco Camp, passing the dramatic Barranco Wall. Rest and enjoy dinner while preparing for the next day’s trekking challenges.

Climb the Barranco Wall early in the morning, avoiding crowds and taking in majestic views of Kibo Volcano. Continue across ascents and descents to Karanga Camp, followed by an acclimatization hike towards Barafu Camp.

Morning trek to Barafu Summit Camp, the staging point for your final summit attempt. Arrive to pre-set tents and sleeping bags, allowing ample time to rest, hydrate, and prepare mentally for the midnight ascent.

Depart Barafu Camp at midnight for the final push to Uhuru Peak. Celebrate your summit success with breathtaking views over the African continent. Begin a careful descent via Barafu Camp to Millennium Camp. Safety is critical, as the majority of accidents occur on descent.

Complete your descent to Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificates, and celebrate with the support crew. Transfer back to Maridadi Hotel or Tulia Hotel (or similar) for a well-deserved rest, hot shower, and celebratory dinner.

Departure
