Overview of the Lemeosho Route - 6 Days

The Lemosho Route is one of the most celebrated trails on Mount Kilimanjaro, offering exceptional scenery, excellent acclimatization, and high summit success rates. Approaching from the western slopes, it winds through dense rainforest, expansive moorlands, and stunning alpine deserts, culminating at the highest point in Africa: Uhuru Peak.

This route is perfect for group climbs, providing a shared adventure with fellow trekkers while allowing enough space and tranquility to fully enjoy Kilimanjaro’s unique landscapes. The route is also famous for landmarks such as Cathedral Peak and the alien-looking Dendrosenecio kilimanjari, which make the trek both challenging and visually spectacular.

Accommodation before and after the trek can be arranged at Maridadi Hotel in Moshi or Tulia Hotel in Arusha (or similar), offering comfort, hot showers, and a relaxing environment to rest and celebrate your achievement

Arrival at Kilimanjaro / Transfer to Hotel

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and meet the Kiliclimb Africa Safaris team. Transfer to Maridadi Hotel (Moshi) or Tulia Hotel (Arusha) for a comfortable overnight stay.

  • Highlights: Hot showers, cozy rooms, internet access, swimming pool, and an evening briefing to prepare for the trek.
  • Optional: Extend your hotel stay for an extra fee to adjust travel schedules

Trekking lemosho
Londorossi Gate → Shira 2 Camp

After a morning briefing, drive 3–4 hours to Londorossi Gate, the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park. Trek from the high-altitude drop-off point (3,414 m) to Shira 2 Camp, taking in stunning views of the Shira Plateau. This moderate ascent allows your body to begin acclimatizing to high altitudes. Our expert mountain crew will set up tents and prepare a nutritious dinner.

Lava Tower machame route
Shira 2 Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

Depart Shira 2 Camp to reach Lava Tower (4,600 m), a key point for altitude acclimatization. Spend 1–2 hours here to adjust before descending to Barranco Camp, with views of the famous Barranco Wall, ready for tomorrow’s climb.

Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

Start the day by ascending the Barranco Wall, a manageable yet rewarding climb with spectacular Kibo views. Continue to Karanga Camp with multiple ascents and descents. An acclimatization hike toward Barafu Camp (4,335 m) strengthens your body for the summit attempt before returning to Karanga Camp for dinner.

Lemosho
Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp

Hike to Barafu Camp, the base for the final night summit to Uhuru Peak. Tents and sleeping bags are pre-set by our team, allowing you to rest and conserve energy for the challenging summit climb.

3,995m → 4,720m

Day 6

Kilimanjaro
Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Millennium Camp

Depart midnight to 2 am to summit Uhuru Peak. Traverse scree, glaciers, and challenging slopes, reaching Stella Point for sunrise before completing the final ascent. Descend carefully to Millennium Camp via Barafu Camp, taking safety precautions on the loose terrain.

Highlights: Sunrise from Stella Point, Uhuru Peak summit, glacier trek, rewarding descent

Trekking shira kilimanjaro
Millennium Camp → Mweka Gate → Hotel

Complete the descent to Mweka Gate, collect your summit certificate, and transfer back to your hotel for a celebratory evening. Overnight at Maridadi Hotel or Tulia Hotel (or similar).

Highlights: Certificate ceremony, rainforest trek, celebration of achievement

3,720m → 1,970m

Departure

Check out from your hotel (11:00 AM) and transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Optional extended hotel stay is available for an additional fee for those with evening flights.
